Our Story
Founded in 1990 by Fort Mill’s Chip Smith, Process Equipment, Inc. served as an industrial equipment distributor and manufacturers’ representative in North and South Carolina.
In 2009, after nearly 20 years as a standalone success, the company acquired Emory Wilson Industrials to form Emory Wilson Process, Inc. – a strategic merger that established E.W. Process as one of the region’s largest suppliers of industrial fluid handling equipment. This period of extraordinary growth proved catalytic to significant and exciting corporate milestones, including:
The 2010 introduction of EWP Gives, a corporate philanthropy program through which we annually contribute 3% of gross profits. During the program’s first 10 years of operation, we awarded over $1 million in charitable giving to local and international organizations, including those in EWP Group communities.
In 2011, company ownership transitioned to the employees through an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). In 2021, E.W. Process was named as the Carolinas ESOP Company of the Year, a prestigious award that recognizes exemplary endorsement of employee participation, wealth creation, and individual dignity and worth.
In 2018 we entered into an evolutionary phase again. In less than two years we completed two major, mutually beneficial acquisitions. Together we became EWP Group, a trifecta of process control solutions comprised of the E.W. Process Mechanical Equipment Division, the MacGuire & Crawford Instrumentation & Controls Division and the Lord & Company Industrial Automation Division. In 2023, EWP Group was pleased to announce the acquisition of the R.A. Moore System Integration Division.
Today, we are a $30 million employee-owned enterprise that consists of our more than 85 dedicated members.
At E.W. Process, we are proud that – over 30 years after our founding – we continue to serve as a preeminent partner in mechanical equipment, and that we’re renowned for overcoming the toughest fluid handling challenges. We started as a company of just three visionaries, and now we are the #1 source for process solutions in our region.
